It was after movie that WL & I decided to grab drinks & snacks to fill up our stomachs before we prepare ourselves for dinner. We finally dropped by Hazelnut Coffee & Bar, the cafe that we would pass by each time we head to AEON Bukit Tinggi.
We picked a snack & two drinks from the menu whilst the waiter took in the orders. A lot of people say first impression counts & within split seconds, we already had a taste of bad first impression of the cafe. It was obvious that the waiter did not receive proper training; judging from the way he presents himself in front of customers - bad posture, a less than pleasant face & a voice that is seemingly uninterested.
Alright, never mind the poor service since it is only one aspect of what makes a great cafe. I'm sure the constructive feedback from customers will spur the owner to make some improvement. We waited patiently for our orders to arrive. But it took a little longer than 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive, which is another bad sign.
WL's coconut soda drink came; a sip is all it takes to decide if the drink is good. Unfortunately, the drink didn't pass the test.
I called my usual cuppa - hot mocha. Guess how it turned out...absolutely appalling. The coffee art literally dissolved in the drink.
The coffee itself ain't helping either; as the beverage tasted more like a chocolate drink as my palate picked up more cocoa powder & a weak brew. The 3rd order - fried oyster mushroom finally came, but looking like a pile of fried flour.
Sometimes, the food appearance does not deceive the eye of the beholder. Indeed, this snack had more flour than the mushroom itself. And I thought I managed to chew one part of the mushroom & knew at once it was not fresh.
While unfair to judge this cafe just by testing 3 items that were poorly made, the dining experience was the least pleasing. It took effort for us to ask for serviettes as the waiters weren't attentive. We are surely not returning to this cafe in the future. Rating: 1 out of 5.
