Bumbu Cabe, Glo Damansara

WL & I decided to be more adventurous this weekend by opting for a different kind of cuisine, breaking away from the usual Chinese stir-fry dinners. Together with his brother's family, we scored through Eatigo's list of 50% discounted restaurants & found Bumbu Cabe, an Indonesian restaurant at Glo Damansara.

We ordered 4 dishes & didn't have any expectation at all considering the 50% promotion. When the dishes arrived, we took some serving from each dish & guess what - the food were surprisingly good. Quite authentic as well.

The chicken dish, ayam penyet was flavourful & tender. May taste a little salty on its own hence best eaten together with plain rice.

Next, we have stir-fry tempeh with green beans as our vegetable dish. Tempeh is a soy product in cake form made by natural culturing & controlled fermentation. Though I'm not that fond of tempeh, the stir-fry dish was well cooked & delicious.

Third dish in the order was deep-fried pomfret fish with mango sauce. This dish is another winner, the tangy flavour from the mango binds well with the fish to create a flavourful experience in every bite.

The last dish is a grilled lamb steak in black pepper sauce. I didn't try a piece of the lamb but WL being one critical on food, beamed about the tender & juicy meat. The spicy & burn from the black pepper sauce coating thee steak was on point as well.

One thing worth noting is the array of chilli condiments to suit the different palates. From the spicy-sour ones to the downright spicy, the restaurant have it all covered. I personally fancy the red one that looked like it has chopped chillis, garlic cloves & some shrimp paste mixed for good measures. Sadly, the burn built up with every dip & became too overwhelming for me to hold on. I had to stop.

From first trial, Bumbu Cabe's dishes were delicious & somehow managed to incorporate authentic Indonesian style into the flavours. Not even a single bite that made me believe that each dish a Malaysianised version pretending to be something it's not. It's a little pity that restaurant chooses a rather quiet, under-occupied location such as Glo Damansara. Rating: 4 out of 5.
