Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge

Sunday, June 04, 2017

Disney's classic staple, Pirates of the Caribbean has arrived with the 5th instalment Salazar's Revenge or also known as Dead Men Tell No Tales. I wasn't as excited as used to upon seeing the new movie released in local cinemas, but admittedly felt a sense of nostalgia & familiarity with the movie franchise that I grew up with when I was a kid.

So, I thought of giving this 5th movie another chance, hoping that it'll score better than the previous one. Did Salazar's Revenge receive a brownie point or yet delivered another disappointing outcome?

Sadly, the plot is still remains the same formula as they it was from previous films. You can imagine how exhausting it was to endure a 2 hour film watching Johnny Depp in his antics, which is getting rather tired & old. The only difference is the new casts, but that's pretty much about it.

Don't get me wrong...I love Johnny Depp to bits. The problem lies in how the story moves on after Will Turner & Elizabeth Swann's plot ended in the 3rd film. Salazar's Revenge gives you the feeling that the franchise is never ending & there's so much more story to unfold.

But we all know deep in our minds that there's only so much the Disney can stretch the franchise by continuing the safe route without material source unlike Marvel's - Captain Jack Sparrow will always be there to seek treasures & defeat the sinister evils. And lets admit it, Pirates of the Caribbean has already lost its spark since On Stranger Tides.

Disney should have ended the franchise earlier, at least on a sweet note while it is popular. Now, I'm not so sure anymore.
