Turning 28

Ten years ago, I was just another school leaver, full of youth & vigour, all prepared to enter the next phase of my life - college life. Fast forward to this year, I turned 28 today. Wow. Time flies & I didn't even realised it. In those days, I used to yearn for a birthday blast celebrated among my closest buddies. As time goes by, I didn't expect those happening parties anymore. In fact, I'd prefer to keep my birthday low key & only shared with my loved one. WL religiously celebrated with me for the past 5 years. And I'd have to thank him for that because this year is no different than before.

I opted to have a simple dinner after work since we already went for a short trip last week. We headed to Suki-Ya at Paradigm Mall to try out a Japanese style steamboat.

It's not any different from a typical Chinese style steamboat we're all accustomed to. There are a choice of 4 broths - shabu shabu, sukiyaki, miso & kimuchi. We chose shabu shabu & miso as our soup bases. The rest of the ingredients are served buffet style ranging from vegetables to seafood. WL said the buffet offering was different from the last time he visited. Perhaps the restaurant changes the buffet spread on an occasional basis. Meat for dipping comes in 3 variety - beef, chicken & lamb.

The Japanese are passionate about how to enjoy sukiyaki that they even have table sheets to educate the customers. The step-by-step guide are clearly illustrated with diagrams for easy understanding & I found the tips pretty useful tips on how to ensure the meat is well done without overcooking it. Interestingly, the eating guide can be found on Suki-Ya's website.

Overall, the dinner was a nice change from the usual steamboat I had in Sunway Mentari or Klang. Suki-Ya seems to offer a healthier option maybe because the broth is less oily & fatty. It's a little pricey but I supposed it wouldn't hurt indulging once in a blue moon especially for special occasion. XD

And because today is my birthday, I couldn't hold back the urge to splurge a little bit than usual to pamper myself. I bought 2 CDs at an insanely cheap price (RM9.90 per piece), mascara & a liquid eyeliner from Sephora.

I even got a little birthday surprise from Sephora! I wouldn't have stumble upon the birthday gift redemption email if I didn't have to check for my card number. I must thank myself for being forgetful sometimes. =P

Until now, I still find it hard to believe that I'm already in my late 20s. There's so much more that I want to do, yet so little time. Well, the only advice I can give to myself is to stay focus & make the most out of everything I have now. After all, I'll be pursuing a course soon & in the midst of preparing for my new path. I'm looking forward to it... =)

My first bikini

It's been a long, long time since I last put on a swimsuit; the last I recalled was during my childhood days when I used to play in children's pool at hotels during family holidays. Now that my family hardly spend holidays together & I never had the courage to sign up for swimming lessons probably due to aquaphobia, I really didn't see the need to get fitted in a new piece of swimwear as I grew older.

Recently, I've changed my mind & decided to buy some swimwear mainly because WL & I booked two island vacations for this year. I bought a 2-piece swimwear (a halter top & skirt bottom) which barely got wet in Bali because I was too chicken to take a dunk into the pool at night with WL (who swims at night anyway?). For the upcoming Krabi trip, we're expecting to get even wetter as the main activities involve island hopping, jungle trekking & soaking up in hot springs. I've concluded that one swimwear is not enough for all the wet activities so I took a bolder step & looked up on nice bikini designs online & retail.

Generally, bikinis made from good material do carry a hefty price tag especially brands like Rip Curl, Billabong, Roxy & Schwarzenbach come to mind. The Groupon offer on the Victoria's Secret bikini couldn't have appear at any better time than this & I quickly ordered one (silently praying that the smallest size will fit my skinny frame). The price is RM99 which is definitely cheaper than retail but I started to wonder if it's genuine. Oh well, screw it...I shouldn't be demanding more, right?

The bikini top is the Daisy Push-up Triangle Top design which comes with removable padding. Honestly, the padding doesn't give much push-up to small chest girls like me. As you can see below, the top looks perky because I've replaced it with a thicker padding. It has removable bow & ties at the neck as well as the back.

Moving on the bikini bottom, it has adjustable drawstring side ties with moderate back coverage. Thank God this one fits me well without much tightening needed.

There were 4 colours for sale - black, pink, purple & blue. I chose blue as it stands out more from the rest. So far so good; it does look original with its care label intact but I noticed some typo errors. Doesn't matter. All I care is I can't wait to wear it for my upcoming Krabi trip. =D

I've won it again!

I'm sad to announce that this year's annual dinner was held at the plant again. But this time at our humble ol' PJ plant. Despite the poor environment & so-so food, the lucky draw prizes were surprisingly good - even for the top 300 winners.

I wouldn't complain if I'm given the opportunity to win something again, hopefully better. Last year, I got an unknown brand iron. Until now, I still have no idea how to get rid of it cuz my family wouldn't even consider using it for ironing. It's so plastic & fragile, not to mention having a hard time to heat up properly. As lucky as can be, I was selected as a winner again! Yippee~

Guess what I've won? I won a thermal pot! But in the end, I've decided to exchange with WL's hair dryer cuz his mum needed a thermal pot. Furthermore, WL has no idea what he's gonna do with the hair dryer considering his short hair. Hence, I'm now the proud owner of Philips Salon Essential hair dryer. =)

It's a pretty lightweigh model with 3 settings for careful drying & styling, cool wind to set your preferred style & lastly foldable handle for extra portability. Using it to dry my hair was an easy task cuz the hot wind is surprisingly strong & hot - which is essential for long hair like mine. I supposed this little thing cost about RM70+ at electrical shops. The exchange was worthwhile, indeed. =D

I can't seem to emphasise enough how much I enjoy working. Cuz there's always the privilege of receiving loads of free swags from suppliers & whoever that has long-term business connections with the company you work for. Especially when each employee gets a gift for his/her own keep.

To usher the new year, one of our design agencies bought each one of us this little gift below as a token of gratitude for providing them business all year round. Aww, how sweet! And so cute too~ ^^

Who cares if the Moo Moo is red & not gold in colour? It just looks as good as the golden ox!

A couple of weeks ago, I received several packages one day after another from US & Japan. I don't know what got into me as I ended up having a shopping spree on eBay & Yahoo! Japan Auctions. I reckon it's all thanks to the pre-exam stress XD. Geez...it's not a good thing to hear, is it? Imagine the amount of money I can actually spend if I encounter stress again in the future. o_O

Bet y'all haven't heard about sewing patterns before. It's actually ready-made patterns that can be cut out & sewn together to form a dress design. There're several variations in design to choose from for those who prefer more choices. If only I found these patterns earlier, I could've made them & wear it to prom. The patterns are not too expensive (in US dollars, of course) but they can only be found in the US. So far, I haven't come across any of these stuff in my country which is why I decided to buy them. I haven't got much use of the patterns yet but hopefully in the future. What a total waste of money, eh? XD

Next, the one shown below is actually a travel set that comes with a silver pouch, an aromatic candle, an eyemask (the one you strapped over your eyes to sleep) & a huge postcard. If you click on the thumbnail, notice that the zip handle on the pouch is a shape of an airplane. The items look familiar to you, right? Well, I did blog about it here. I have no idea why I bought them. Maybe cuz I'm always attracted to all things shiny XD. But the pouch definitely has some purpose especially when I'm planning to travel out of town this weekend ^^.

And then, we have two phone straps in which I also got from Yahoo! Japan. The one on the left is actually a mushroom character called ドコモダケ, the current mascot for NTT DoCoMo which comes free if you purchase a DoCoMo handset. Cute fella, isn't he? ^^ And the gold phone strap next to it is a limited edition FOMA N906iu STNY by Samantha Thevasa that is included in every purchase of that particular model. Those Japanese sold the strap separately to make a quick buck. Which is good news for me cuz I absolutely love the strap design. What's missing now is to match it with my dream white SH906i keitai. *sighs*

Last but not least, the much anticipated Dong Bang's 3rd Live Tour DVD has finally arrived. Awesome concert, I would say. Makes me wanna be there so badly. The concert started on my birthday that's why this tour seems special to me. Gotta tell ya that the boys' concert gets better each year. I wonder when will I have the chance to witness them live in action in Japan. *sighs again* Lucky you, Pei Xiang!

I'm a fan of the Olympics, in case you didn't know. As far as I can remember, I've been following the sports since Atlanta 1996. Back then, there wasn't many live coverage of all the sports & Astro was still at its infant stage which makes it too expensive for the general public to afford. Everything is so different now. Just switch on to Astro & you have...what, 11 channels featuring live matches? I'm proud to say that I've been watching the sports event a lot for the previous 2 Olympics, all thanks to Astro. Can't imagine how my life would be without this good 'ol satellite TV.

Even marketing has taken a different step nowadays. I'm sure y'all are aware that McDonald's has collaborated with Coca-Cola to release a limited edition contour-shaped glass in conjunction with the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympics. For every Gold Medal meal, you'll get a free glass with 5 different sport emblems to choose from. I was greedy enough to actually think of getting 2 designs - swimming & archery. Sadly, I have to settle for one only cuz the meal set is pricey. =( Luckily I told Mum to use my McD vouchers so she only need to add another RM4 or RM5. Yet, she still complained about the price -_-.

Since the meal is that expensive, there're a myriad of food included. Here's what McD offers:-

1. Spicy Chicken McDeluxe
2. Onion rings (7 pcs) or french fries (L)
3. Carbonated drink (M)
4. Sundae (Chocolate/Strawberry)

If price is not the main concern, then go for it. The contour glass is a novelty item that you can't miss. Just like the Hello Kitty plushies. XD

Hot, steamy soup

My friends & I were having lunch nearby Taylor's Business School yesterday & decided to check out the Vono soup bar out of curiosity. It was a mini truck stationed at certain locations promoting Vono instant soup. Each box is priced at RM3 & there're 8 variants to choose from to cater to all those picky taste buds out there. Samples of the 8 different flavours were distributed to entice students buy at least one box. Buy 2 boxes, get 1 wooden soup spoon free. Buy 4 boxes, get 1 soup bowl/cup free. Buy 6 boxes, those 2 gifts are all yours. That was what the promoters told us.

Initially, I wasn't planning to buy anything as I was only tagging along. When I saw the complimentary gifts, I became tempted to purchase 6 boxes. But getting all 6 at once seems too expensive for me. So I settled for 2 boxes instead as I was keen to get the wooden spoon. It looks so cute! My guy friend wanted the mushroom flavour so badly that we decided each of us paid half for 2 boxes. I get to keep the spoon cuz he was more enthusiastic about the mushroom soup -_-.

I realised that the spoon seemed incomplete without the bowl & felt determined to get another 4 boxes. Yes, just for the sake of the bowl XD. This is not the first day you know me. I'll go all out to get it if I really want something. Off I went during lunch hour today, keeping my hopes high that the truck is still there. It's there! At the very same spot. Then I immediately selected 4 flavours, paid the cash & asked for the bowl. I was really disappointed when it was out of stock. But the girl assured that stocks will be replenished within 2 hrs & she gave me 2 spoons first.

At 4pm, I went there again & the gals were smilling gleefully at me. They must be thinking I'm the only one who's crazy enough to return just for the bowl. Who wouldn't? I already have a spoon, I don't need another 2. So yeah, they even took a shot of me with my best smile while holding the bowl & spoon. Just for contest purpose. Sighs. I'd probably looked...weird.

Mum was telling me that I'll most likely get sick of instant soup in no time. -_-

Fan made of silk

Recently, I bought a sensu (silk fan) directly from Japan together with a chirimen sensu holder. What for? For no particular reason, to be honest. I always have this crazy behaviour of buying something that is usually of no use. If I see something that really caught my eye, I have a strong desire to own it. Most of the time, the price tag is not an important factor. It's the matter of whether the item is beautiful, pretty, shiny, rare...you name it. Lets just say this behaviour started ever since I had more allowance, owning my very own credit card & having my friend in Japan who's ever willing to do big favours for me. Of course, my childhood love for anything Japanese played the biggest role to encourage such behaviour. Not that it's a good thing XD.

Nevertheless, I still do have my senses. I wouldn't spend much on items that are incredibly expensive...something that I seriously can't afford. There were times that I felt like telling my friend to get a J-phone handset & delivered it to my house, knowing that the phone doesn't function in my country at all. So the only thing I could do was salivate over countless pics of those elongated, geometrically-designed phones over the Internet. Later when I found out that there're ppl who managed to unlock these exotic phones, I was thrilled. But I still couldn't afford one yet cuz they're sold at exorbitant prices. The phones are in high demand & once proven usable overseas, ppl will flock to J-phone importers to grab one. Obviously the importers would take advantage of the high demand to earn big bucks.

Anyways, enough of those incessant ramblings. This item I bought is made of silk, Japanese paper & bamboo which makes it really delicate & fragile. The silk material is semi-transparent & gives out a sheer tint. It looks very thin, easy to tear & fall off anytime if you add any extra ounce of energy holding or opening the fan. On the contrary, the holder is made of chirimen fabric in which the colour is matched according to the colour & design of the fan I've selected. No doubt I chose red & pink for the holder but the exact colour motifs were not decided by me. And I'm pretty impressed that the website matched the colour combinations so perfectly that it feels so exquisite to slot in my fan (not just for the sake of protecting it) & carry it around. All I can say is...it's simply beautiful. Love it to bits~ *grins*

My grandma barged into my room yesterday morning & calling out loud, "You have a package~!!". I woke up, eyes still half shut & walked out to the gate whereby the postman was happily chirping "Good morning!" to me while holding up a huge box. I signed lazily at the spot he pointed at on the paper, grabbed the box & headed back to my room.

I've got heaps of items to sort out since one of my friends ordered a lot this time. *sighs* Seeing this pile of junk items makes me feel lazy. Well, at least all of them already paid so there's less headache. For the love of Dong Bang, I'm doing the gals a favour to order these overly-priced items from Japan. I feel so noble for once XD

While driving home from college, grandma suddenly mentioned that my clothes are here. Bwuh? Clothes...?? Since when I ordered clothes online after my prom dress? I couldn't recall anything at all. Gah~ I shrugged it off as I was busy driving anyway.

The minute I caught a glimpse of a crumpled & stuffed up envelope on my bed; all of a sudden I remembered what it was. It's the Dong Bang artwork T-shirts that I ordered last month & they're finally here. Guess what, this was the 1st order that encountered problems in spite of my frequent purchase from YesAsia. Apparently, my credit card couldn't be billed after they shipped out the package. My credit card had insufficient credit at the time when they billed it. It wasn't my fault for the insufficient credit & it was with the bank after all & yadi yada.

Anyways, the dispute was over & I'm too lazy to dwell on it. Besides, I'm worried sick about my incomplete assignments which will be due in 2-3 weeks to come. Believe it or not, we have not even discuss properly. The upcoming weeks will definitely be a nightmare~ *sweats*

I was so excited when my prom dress arrived yesterday. It looks absolutely fabulous at such a cheap price. Of course, I didn't expect much from the material used cuz at RM59.90; there's no way you can get a chiffon dress. I'll kill myself if you can ever get one.

Here's how the dress looks like. I haven't got to take a pic of myself wearing it together with my shoes. I always end up not wearing a proper bra underneath when trying the dress for everyone to see. Perhaps I should save the best moment for the prom night itself & take loads of beautiful pics. ^^

Gah~ If only my 3.2mp camera wasn't stolen in the first place. Then I wouldn't need to rely on others to take pics. T.T Somebody just get me a brand new camera right now!! *wails* Oh boy, I just realised that I'll be attending events one week after another. Intiball is this Saturday while Talent Nite is scheduled next week. *imagines money flying away* T.T

Dad might be driving my grandparents to JB next Thursday which means I might have to drive to uni myself. Ack! The hassle of finding a carpark & leave it there until class ends. Thank goodness class starts at 8am so it forces me to leave house earlier to grab a good parking space. Hmm yes...that should be it.

Pissed. Disappointed. A little upset. That was how I felt when I failed to win the auction last night. I wanted this (pics below) quite badly & decided to go for it.

I was very close to winning it. Then, WHAM! Someone outbid me...

I could've won it if I could afford higher bid T.T. My competitor kept on bidding non-stop during the last 10 mins. I was one step slower...so I lost in the end. Whoever that fella is won with the bid of 9500 yen.

I've been longing to post the 東方神起ｘVERITE jewellery pics which I found from Cyxion forum. Some rich fella, I mean...REALLY RICH fan actually bought the whole collection. I felt so jealous cuz I intended to buy one of them when the jewelleries were available for order on mu-mo.net in January. It was too pricey to begin with & so I changed my mind. Well, who said Japanese goods are cheap? *sighs* The money I saved up was used to buy the 1st Live Concert: Rising Sun DVD instead. And I thought those ridiculously expensive jewelleries didn't look too nice in the illustrations.

Little did I expect that these VERITE jewelleries turned out to be gorgeous. Like I said earlier, some rich fella bought the entire collection & took snapshots of every piece of silver jewelleries. At that moment, I was more convinced that they are indeed beautiful. I felt a tinge of regret for not ordering in the first place T.T. Yeah, it was pricey; it's even worse now. The only way to get any of the VERITE pieces is through Yahoo! Japan Auctions. It might sound crazy to you but there are auctioners out there willing to pay up to 10500 yen just for some silver crap. It's not even embedded in diamond. Imagine how much value the Dong Bangs have... o_O

There I was looking like a psycho girl who just escaped from an asylum when I stormed towards 100￥ショップ at SS2 while my Grandma dropped by at the morning wet market to grab some groceries. As soon as I entered the shop, I took no notice of the workers nor other items displayed & hurried towards the rack displaying none other than the 美Stick boxes. I promised Teema that I would get her Jaejoongie's box if I came upon one.

To my surprise, there were lots of white boxes with Jaejoong's porcelain-smooth face printed on them. You should've seen how my face gleamed & slowly turned into a huge stupid grin. Without wasting any time, I started searching for the rest of the members. There was an array of flavours available for sale (chocolate, coffee, chocolate errrr...) but most of them has Yoochunnie's face. Ack!

Since there were quite an amount of stocks with each of the members, I decided to grab them while they lasts. And so I grab them & put on the floor; dig some more for other flavours. This act of insanity probably drove the shopkeeper nuts (he must've been sniggering inside as well, hmmph~ more on that later). He approached & placed a shopping basket beside me; stood there for a couple of seconds trying to figure out what's so special about pretty boys on chocolate snacks boxes. Of course, they are. Because they're the Dong Bangs XD.

At the counter, the shopkeeper asked with a sly smile, "Is that all?". I said, "Yeah..." & started unloading the snacks from the basket. In total, I paid RM44.90 for all the snacks. Speaking of insanity, eh? He sniggered again before handing me the plastic bag & then clearly said, "Please COME AGAIN~". Get the sniggering part now? I'm probably one of those rare customers who walked out of the shop with a bagful of chocolate snacks worth RM44.90. Imagine paying that much for 9 boxes of snacks XD.

I felt poorer for the day but nevertheless, it made me happy ^^. At the moment, I'm still short of the complete set for the red boxes...*nudges Teema*

This year is definitely one of the best birthday in my life *grins*. I have friends giving me presents which are practical & useful; Dad buying a brand new toy for me just in time for my bday XD. The toy is not just a toy, okay...it's for convenience & to assist my work in uni. I treated it as a bday pressie. That's why I didn't having a big bday event since it's so expensive. I saw a really interesting documentary yesterday. It's How Did They Do It? on Discovery Channel which showcases various industries in certain countries & the processes involved. One of the segment was about manufacturing pencils & the company referred to was Faber-Castell *nudges Jen* XD. I wouldn't have known how pencils were made if the filming wasn't done. It was rather unusual to see how graphite is turned into lead, inserted in between 2 pieces of wood glued together, cut, shaped, paint & then finally sharpen before being packed. The best part is no single piece of wood is put to waste as it's fully utilised to make as much pencils as possible without any leftover bits. Speaking of efficiency & eco-friendliness, eh? ^^

I've got happy news for this week. First, I finally met up with my online friend whom I knew through the Dong Bang LJ comm. It was really nice of her to invite me over for CNY. You can say that we had an awesomely great time rattling & fangirling away like nobody's business XD. And she's more of an avid Dong Bang fan compared to me *envious*. I mean, look at her collections. Wow~ I was truly overwhelmed. Besides the fangirling part, I got an extra angpau too ^^. Secondly, she gave me an early birthday present & insisted that I opened it right away. Oh boy, you wouldn't believe what was inside the wrapper. This was what she gave me...

Kyaaa...I really can't wait for it XD. The title is Five in the Black, ppl! Anyone care to give it to me as present?? Omg, I'm so demanding -_-". Just joking...I'm gonna get it myself. * runs off to pre-order*

Bad timing

I'm so slow at updating my blog ne~ *smiles sheepishly*. Last week, I was accepted to work in THAT bank I mentioned in my previous post. I was delighted because the pay is pretty decent for data entry work. THE bank is paying me RM995 a month & required me to serve 3 months. Unfortunately, I had to decline the job & called them the next day. I was unable to fully fulfil the 3 months job because my uni's intake is coming up. THE bank didn't need me after all. If there is a 2 months job, they would contact me (which I doubt so). How disappointing! I could've earned RM2000++ (I'm soo close to getting my Walkman~ *sobs*).

When the girl from Tower Records called me last Saturday evening to inform that my ageha DVD had arrived, I was utterly shocked! Ohmigod...she managed to order one for me & it came all the way from Taiwan. My mood lifted up once again. I quickly followed mum for shopping & collected the dvd. The DVD was RM82.90, no joke. A little too pricey compared to PRIME OF LIFE DVD. But heck, it was worthed every cent because that DVD rocks big time~! I went to bed at 3am that night after watching the entire 1st disc & a little bit from the 2nd disc. *grins proudly* :P Mum found out that I paid so much for that thing...and called me a crazy nuthead. I ignored her...I found out that w-inds. is bound to release their 5th album on March 15. Geez, I just got my DVD recently and seems like I'm getting "poorer". I wish someone would be nice enough to buy their new album for my birthday *tsk tsk* (my birthday is on March 19). This time the poses on their new album cover has been toned down rather than their usual high flying & kicking positions. Less colourful compared to ageha & only gray shades is used. There's 2 version for the cover though I personally prefer the regular edition (pic below).

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention their new single. It was released a few days ago. Of course, I didn't buy it...it's insane having to pay RM40++ for it. So I downloaded it and I was very, very impressed. The single & coupling songs are interlinked, exactly like house music. Like what Keita said, this single leaves a deep impression whenever we listen to it. I was addicted to it & right now, those songs are still spinning in my head. The PV was hilarious & there were some cute moments which I personally like. However, the spaceship looked awful. One of the worst CG I've ever seen. Even the CG used in ageha PV was much better.

My best friend got hitched with a guy from the same uni recently. Hmm...I was a little envious & jealous at first. After some serious thought, I told myself I shouldn't be feeling like this. How silly of me for being jealous! Besides, why should I even bother? There are other things that require more of my attention...
